Scientists have claimed that they will be able to create life in the next 3 to 10 years. Please Comment.
I was really excited after hearing this news and the method they are planning to use sounds quiet convincing. One day man will be able to create new life, that's for sure, and that will be the greatest achievement of science ever. It will indeed change the way we look at the world. Many questions will get answered and many new philosophical questions will be raised. It will be a great revolution. It will open the gates of a new Renaissance. The last one happened when Copernicus placed the sun at the center.
What kind of revolution are you talking about?
Two kinds of revolutions are possible.
If we assume that by creating life man creates the soul, then that will be a big blow to all the religions of the world. Till this time all religions are guided by a basic principle. There exists a soul and it can neither be created nor it can be destroyed. Going by our assumption, if man creates life he also creates the soul. That will shatter the very basis of all religions. Till this time Oriental religions haven't been contradicted. This might give the oriental religions a new way of looking at the world. If soul can be created probably it can be destroyed. If it gets destroyed probably there is nothing beyond death, and thus there is no soul. Everything is materialistic.
If a more curious mind is at work then it can reason out one another, equally credible point. If we assume unconditionally there is a soul, then after this scientific feat, not only living beings, but every thing starting from the dead, to the nature, to the man made, has a soul. Everything has a life. We just don't see it. The omnipotent nature of the soul becomes its natural result.
If this is true then, things will turn the other way round. Life won't be a special property of some objects, but a universal character of this universe. If this is the truth then that will give even more credibility to the oriental religions, and provide science with a food for though.
The creation of life will be a revolution as it will get us even more closer to the big question. Is there a soul? If life gets created, then either nothing has a soul or everything has a soul. Only these two options will exist. The final answer will come when science is able to tell, what happens after death? If we still exist then soul exists, science proves religion. It proves there is a soul in everything. It proves that something is everywhere. It proves there is ब्रह्मण(Brahman). If we don't, all the religions loose their authority. The way most of the people look at this world will change. There will be nothing. No God, no soul, no life after death. Nothing. It will shatter all religions.
