There exists a very fine difference between faith and belief.
Although they exists a very feeble line of demarkation between the
two, spiritually these two are completely opposite to each other.
Faith(Shraddha) marks the beginning of a spiritual journey, while
belief(vishwaas) means commiting a spiritual suicide.
When we believe, our quest for knowledge ends. We collect some
garbage informaion from here and there(believing everything that
suits us) and then when this garbage collection grows big we think
we know and we have the knowledge.
There are many beliefs that our mind has. We have a specific point
of view about everything. You may find many people giving their
expert comments on Gita or Ramayana, without having ever read the
spriptures ever. All what then know comes from some Saint on the TV,
or some articles on the newspaper or in the best case from a small
summary of the whole book.
This is the problem in believing. It stops us from knowing things in
depth. It keeps us in shallowness. It ends our desire to know how
and why. Knowledge only comes to an ignorant seeker, the one who is
ready to go deep in his quest for knowledge.
Faith is like love, or love itself. It cannot be described.
Faith gives us a direction to begin our journey while belief gives an illusion that a part of our journey has ended.
I will love to listen to you comments on this post of mine.
