It will be really incorrect to say that I compose music, as I really don't. The truth is music gets filled in me or I fill myself with music. I think the song had always existed; I just got a chance to hear it first. In fact I hear such cosmic music once in a while, in moments of deep emotions and feelings, and thankfully I feel deeply quite often. That's the reason I get to hear many great songs every month.
Its not so, that I don't compose music myself. In fact I compose around two to three songs each day. But the touching factor of the music composed by me is nil. There exists a superficiality and artificiality associated with the synthetic music of mine. The cosmic songs that I get to listen are simply natural and touch my heart very deeply. That's the reason I think in my collection of songs that I call my discoveries, hardly a single song would have been synthetically derived.
Whenever a new song starts to float in my mind, the feeling that I get when I realise the song is that of a great discovery and not of an invention. There is an act of serendipity attached to all these songs that are precious jewels that play in my mind are willing to get out for everyone.
So here I write about some of the precious jewels that I got a chance to discover myself...
- Tere sang chaloonga- I discovered this song in my room on 26th of April. I was singing another song of mine "Main Kis Gali" and I unintentionally changed the partial melody of the song and started to sing a different version of the song. The song changed its track and ended up into this beautiful composition. In this song a child's mother dies in an army bombing and people tell to him that his mother has gone somewhere far, never to come back. So the child is saying to his mother "Tere sang chaloonga meri maa" ("I want to go with you, my mother"). It is the story of a child who turns into a human bomb, but in the end the love for his mother stops him from blowing up and making other children motherless. The song shows the human side of terrorist on one hand, while condemns the act of violence on the other. It is a pure vocal song using only acoustic guitar and Tabla. This is the most well developed song I have ever come across and this song surely marks the beginning of a new phase in this adventure of music of mine.
- Aawaara Banjaara- I had discovered this song long ago, but rediscoverd it in the institute area one morning. In this song the singer tells to its listeners that he is free like a river going anywhere where his destiny takes him and he really doesn't care as he ultimately will reach his destination (the sea) no matter what route he takes. It uses traditional Indian Instruments like Sarangi, Tabla, and Dholak for its composition.
- Be Free- I discovered this song while leaving back for Delhi, in the lifts of Hotel Magadh in Patna on 21st April. The song captures all my childish desires that generally people feel embarrassed to share. The video associated with the song is a short animation movie about a small bird that wakes up in his nest to a sunny morning with his mother embracing him tightly. It is a rock song which oscillates between soft acoustic guitar to loud electric guitar and drums.
- Everybody Fools on- This song got composed when I was coming back to hostel from the institute. The song asks from its listeners "Everybody fools on sometime with someone around... and when I did my bit, why this world is shitting around?" It is a hard rock using electric guitar and drums.
- Me and My Music- I discovered this song at the midnight in my Nana-Nani's home on 13th April. The song is an emotional story, in which I share my disappointment of being alone and my helplessness in finding love. The song is soft rock oscillating between soft piano to electric guitar leads. The song is predominantly vocal.
- Dangerous- This song got discovered unknowingly and arbitrarily while on my way back to hostel on 7th or 8th of April. The song had its influences from my previous song, unconventional. This song is hard rock with Satan as the singer.
- Unconventional- I discovered this song at my Nana-Nani's home on 5th or 6th of April. The song talks about breaking all the conventions and doing the unconventional. It is a slow song with use of violin and electric drum.
- Fallen- I discovered this song in my hostel while going downstairs to buy an ice-cream. The song was dedicated to all my close friends and it talked about the irony that in this world of billions of people, it is so difficult to find just one person who can be called as our own. The song is slow pop song using piano and drums as the instruments.
- Chamki Re Kismat- I discovered this song while coming back to hostel after classes on 31st of March. It was a fun song made for all those people who had won in the elections. It uses Sarangi and Dholak as the main instruments.
- Rat Race- I discovered this song on 31st March just after the end of my morning lectures. This song was dedicated to all those people who had indulged in unethical politics in our college and was a funny take on the rat race everyone is a part of in IIT. The song is proper rock with rap, whistles, electric guitar and drums as the instruments.
- Kash Laga Ke Baitha- I discovered this song in my hostel on the night of 28th of March before the elections. It was composed out of grief as I was really disturbed seeing friends deceiving each other at the time of elections. In this song I tell to my listeners that I have drunk as I am sad and let me stay in its high as it makes life easier for me.
- I smile on and on- I discovered this song on my way to Gurgaon to my bhaiya's place on 21st of March. This song is dedicated to the all those beautiful street children of India who keep on smiling even when they lead one of the harshest lives. The song tells its listeners 100 reasons for smiling on and on. There is whistling in the song and the only instrument being used is acoustic guitar.
- Everybody's karma- This song was discovered arbitrarily at the IIT hostel gate. Initially there were just some words that were attached to this song, like "karma" and "drama". So later I developed this song on the lines of Shakespeare- "The whole world is a stage". It is a pure pop song that uses high amount of audio mixing and effects.
- Jiya na laage- This is a beautiful song that I discovered on most probably 12th of March while doing an experiment on machining and cutting tool temperature at the machining shop. This song came arbitrarily and it was my friend who took notice of the song when I was humming it unknowingly. This is a simple love song in which the singer tells his state of heart to his love. The song uses sitar and tabla as the instruments.
- My heart beats in love for you- I again got this song arbitrarily, while coming back to the hostel. The song was initially indeed to be developed as a devotional song, but later it become so romantic that I preferred to make it as romantic one. The video attached to this song is of a boy and a girl and it shows a beautiful and a happy story of their love. The song is plain vocals with use of acoustic guitar.
- Where my heart lies (Life's a comedy) - I discovered this song in the library on the chair that I call "the hot seat" as I feel very creative while sitting on it. This song said "I don't know where my heart lies." The tunes has great similarities to the earlier song of mine "I am too happy" Later I composed another song "Life's a comedy" on the same melody in my Biochemistry class and as the song's lyrics were more thought provoking, so I made it as the main song. The songs tells to its listeners that if observe your life you will find it like a comedy. The song uses acoustic guitar as the main instruments and some light percussion like tapping.
- Just chill- This song was composed while going to the juice shop of the college. This song is dedicated to all those people who are unable to enjoy life as they are all trapped by social rules of conduct and the fear of the future. The song asks people to stay chill. The song uses synthesizer as the main instrument and is pop in genre.
- They ask me to- I discovered this song in my class on Low cost automation. This is a rap and uses only percussion instruments and complimentary electric guitar. In the song the singer tells its listener shows his dislike for all the things that people ask him to do. He says he will follow only his heart and he is no hurry in life as there are many births to take.
- Dheere Dheere, Maddham Maddham- I discovered this song on 6th of March in my hostel. It was again an arbitrary discovery that I started to sing unknowingly! In this song the singer tells his love how slowly and gradually they fell in love. This song uses chords of electric guitar, piano and dholak as instruments.
- Main Kis Gali Jaa Raha Hoon- I discovered this song in Okhla while walking down its streets on 1st of March. In this song I ask got to liberate me from all the bondages of life and to let me fly like a bird. This song uses electric guitar and drums and is Indian rock.
- I don't wanna be happy- I discovered this song on the train, Rajdhani Express, while coming from Dhanbad to Delhi on 24th of February. In this song I shared with my listeners my problem that was my happiness. I asked everyone to give me grief and sadness as happiness had simply intoxicated me. It tried to give a very deep message that happiness and sadness are just two sides of the same coin and one turns into another when in excess. The song is pure vocals and uses only acoustic guitar.
- When I was 16- I discovered this song in Dhanbad on 23rd of February. It was a very nice sunny day and I was going to the barber's shop for a hair cut. It was my last day in Dhanbad and I got a bit nostalgic and realised how great my life was, when I was in my early teens. The song tells its listeners that simple life is the best. No matter how high I climb, in the end I will always long to get back home. The song uses acoustic guitar chords and light drums along with the vocals. I consider this song to be a landmark in my entire adventure of music and consider this song as the one that "Liberated me".
